Here is an excerpt from this article on KETV.com:
"Authorities said they arrested 36 gang members and seized 69 weapons in Omaha and Lincoln Tuesday in a sweeping investigation that officials said dismantled the metro area's role in a trans-national gang. The weapons included 14 assault rifles and a Barrett .50-caliber sniper rifle that were sold to a government informant who told the gang members he planned to ship them to Mexico where they'd be used to arm Mexican drug cartels. Law enforcement officials said it was the biggest gun bust in Omaha history and a major blow to the Serenos street gang." Link to Full Article
Analysis: I'm going to keep this post short and sweet because there's only one thing I want to point out. The .50-caliber sniper rifle mentioned in the story was seized in NEBRASKA and sold by a GANG MEMBER to an informant. It was not purchased in Central America or China or Romania or some former Soviet-bloc country. I grow increasingly frustrated with journalists and so-called analysts that believe military-grade hardware and most other firearms used by DTOs don't actually come from the US, as the US government claims. While I acknowledge that we'll never know the true percentage, this is a great example of how the weapons trafficking problem is NOT exclusive to the southwest border states, and involves even midwest gang members. Huge kudos to Omaha law enforcement for this bust, and I hope we see many more across the country.
